About PFLAG Powder Springs

Welcome to an organization supporting true family values. Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is a nationwide, non-profit, volunteer, and community-based organization. It all began in 1972, when one mother marched in the gay pride parade in New York supporting her gay son. Jeanne Manford carried a placard that said, “Parents of Gays: Unite in Support for our Children.” It grew from there.  One person can make a difference.

The national organizational, founded in 1981 by 30 parents, represents groups across the United States. PFLAG now represents more than 250,000 members and speaks for thousands of others. PFLAG affiliates are located in over 500 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and eleven other countries. PFLAG is not affiliated with any ethnic, religious, economic or political group. Our purpose is to provide confidential help to families and friends to understand sexual orientation and gender identity while helping to raise awareness and acceptance.

In Powder Springs, we are a group of parents, families, friends, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgendered people who are committed to giving support to each other as we discover and understand more about being human. Our purpose is to help change attitudes and to create an environment of understanding so that our gay family members and friends can live with dignity and respect. We accomplish this mission through support, education, and advocacy.

Everyone is welcome at our meetings. Along with parents and GLBT people, these meetings also include allies, children, spouses, grandparents, and siblings. PFLAG literature is available; we have a free lending library and our members receive a quarterly newsletter. Contact us for confidential support, inquiries, and referrals by e-mail to duaned@comcast.net.
